Here's a few asteroids I put together very quickly (and cheaply) for use with X-Wing, Battlefleet Gothic or any other space game you play:

This bag of lava rocks cost about $5 at Home Depot. I only used a few, so you could create an entire asteroid field if you wished! |

Bamboo skewers - super cheap, and you should have them anyway for BBQing shrimp, onions and peppers. Just drill a small hole in the base and then glue in the skewer. I find it better to clip the sharp end off after its been inserted into the base. |
 |
Get a small masonry drill bit, if you don't have one (though, you should!). A regular drill bit might work, but it would take a long time and dull the bit. These masonry bits are designed to go through concrete, so they cut through the soft volcanic rock like buddah!

Drill holes in the bottoms of the rocks - Lava rock is quite soft, so it goes quick (as long as you're using a masonry bit). Then, hot-glue in the shafts. I first tried using wood glue (pictured) but hot glue works much quicker. |

Then, paint the bases and the rocks black. Then wet brush the prime color (I picked red) and dry brush up to highlights. Super easy! |
Hope you enjoyed this, have fun!
