I've got a nice little set of Epic sized space marines. They're basically painted up as Space Wolves and Emperor's Children. Since my last post on the topic, I've added some terrain to my collection, as well as Devastator, Assault, Terminators squads, and two Knights. So, I've got two armies of what would be a "normal" 2,000 point 40k game, but not enough for what would Tiny Basement Warshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18177114264084517734noreply@blogger.com24tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7447094707591593708.post-79984152569898073182019-01-21T00:43:00.000-05:002019-01-21T00:44:29.493-05:002019 GoalsIt's been forever since I've posted, and the only gaming I've gotten in is a Warmaster matchup between Undead and Dwarves. I'm playing against my son, but only a bit each weekend, and its dragged on.
In any event, I thought I'd jot down some goals for the year, hoping to inspire myself to get something done.

Basically, I just wanted to get a feel for the game.
The German and Allied infantry ran for cover and settled in for some cross shooting. The Allies took an early lead by using the Shermans to machine gun the crap out of the German infantry. I'm finally getting the pieces together for a Battlefleet Gothic game, but needed some of the Order dice. I couldn't find any, so made my own and printed them up on cardstock:
I wouldn't want to use paper dice for rolling, but for markers they work just fine.

Per my prior post, I'm working on a DIY Mighty Empire set of tiles for a Warmaster Campaign.
My loose inspiration, in part, will be the Empire of the Old World. To start sketching out the plan, I overlaid a hex field onto a map of the Empire:
There are about 28 tiles here that need to be made. I don't plan on following the layout religiously, as I will try to keep the Tiny Basement Warshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18177114264084517734noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7447094707591593708.post-82751184463925370912018-04-14T09:17:00.001-04:002018-04-14T09:17:33.530-04:00Warmaster MarkersTo gear up for some Warmaster campaign action, I'm planning to put together some home-made Might Empires type tiles, using MDF hexes. I also wanted some tokens to represent the different factions.
I found some on-line templates, but decided to put together a variation with square markers (I suppose you could make them into small flags, if you wanted). And, I created new markers for Tiny Basement Warshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18177114264084517734noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7447094707591593708.post-89143965878510946452018-03-16T23:33:00.004-04:002018-04-14T09:31:29.352-04:00Battle of Germantown - Post Game Results
Its been a while since my son and I played this game out, but I'm finally getting round to the battle rep. The Battle of Germantown scenario (written by Bob Barnetson) I'm playing is from Tea for Two, a great hack that turns the Warmaster rules into an AWI ruleset. I made the counters myself and posted them up on the site if you want to download. The founding of the United States was my favorite period of history when I was a school boy.
Growing up in Philadelphia, in the shadow of the Founding Fathers, history was all around me - I literally walked in the footsteps of giants. The Liberty Bell. Independence Hall. The Betsy Ross House. Valley Forge.

I already have a set of Sisters of Sigmar. But, I couldn't pass up a great deal on a set of Sisters of Sigmar minis, especially since it had the special characters. I had gotten out of the routine of painting regularly, and these gals got be back into the habit. No pun intended.

But with Christmas coming, my mind is drawn away from elves and dwarves and towards the brave men of 1777 who encamped at Valley Forge en route to liberating the New World from the yoke of Monarchy.
Damn, these guys look cold.

Out of print, but still available via the Interwebs.
Though I've not been blogging much about it, I've gotten into Games Workshop's (oop) Warmaster quite a bit recently. If you've not looked into it, Rick's Warmaster is the place to start. It's got the rules and lots of articles and variants up on line. Basically everything you need but the 10mm fantasy minis.

Thought I'd share a few items fresh from Ye Olde Workbench.
First up, Rogue Trader Harlequins:

Last week I tried to replicate the rare Mordheim Chaos Carnival Plague Bearer 1. Once the kit bashing was done, it was time for painting. Here's the final product:
I added a wee nurgling to the base for extra effect:
Here he is with a Brute and the Carnival Master, for scale:
I think he matches up pretty well, for being based off a random non-gaming miniTiny Basement Warshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18177114264084517734noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7447094707591593708.post-36303672697855026892015-10-08T07:44:00.002-04:002015-10-08T07:44:51.715-04:00The Littlest Space Marine
I was prepping some of the Epic 30k forces I painted up a while back, figuring out how to play a simple game with them, and came across a tiny metal space marine among the extra, leftover stuff. The rest of the space marines were all plastic, so he stood out a bit:
He's not heavy, he's my brother.
As I looked him over, I realized the metal guy was a much more detailed sculpt than the Tiny Basement Warshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18177114264084517734noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7447094707591593708.post-36661248295241898572015-10-02T07:29:00.000-04:002015-10-20T21:42:53.933-04:00Kit Bashing a Rare Mordheim Carnival Plague Bearer 1So, I've got a nice little collection of the Mordheim Carnival of Chaos. But, I don't have any of the really rare pieces. In particular, the guy below, on the left:
To Be or . . . wait, is that a maggot on my lunch?
I used to have a bit of a love/hate relationship with William Shakespeare (long story), so the Hamlet-esque sculpt really appeals to me. So, having a long weekend allowed me to not only complete a longstanding goal of basing some terrain, but also allowed me to engage in an entirely new endeavor.
I bring you, the Inquisitorial Dark Column of Grimness:
This is a column, as it doesn't support a roof. If it did, it would be a pillar. But how did this awesome artifact come to be?
I picked this out of Tiny Basement Warshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18177114264084517734noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7447094707591593708.post-6287629124655656602015-09-07T23:02:00.000-04:002015-10-20T21:42:25.058-04:00Labor Day Weekend Terrain FestSo, here in the states, we have something called "Labor Day", in which we celebrate the organized labor movement by not working. Ironic, no?
In any event, it also signals the unofficial end of Summer, so it's always a bittersweet affair. This weekend, I committed to start AND finish a long-standing terrain project, AND start and finish a completely new one.
